What Is Covered

Our dedicated staff of instructors will provide you with training in the following areas:

Plate Work

We will spend a great deal of time working with you individually to help you develop a consistent strike zone and to improve your mechanics. We will also work on your stance, voice, and timing. You will need a video tape for this session.

Two-Umpire Mechanics

We will work in the classroom discussing the philosophies of the two-umpire system, and it will be demonstrated on the field by the instructors.

Professional, College & High School Rules

We will review the Major League, NCAA & NFHS rule books, emphasizing pitching rules, safety rules, and more troublesome areas of the game.

Situational Management

Handling situations is what separates the good umpires from the great ones. We will cover how to handle game situations, balks, arguments, and ejections.

Professionalism

We will go over what is expected of umpires both on and off the field. We will also share with you what supervisors look for in prospective umpires.

Mental Preparation

This is perhaps the most important aspect of umpiring. We will introduce you to several psychological exercises that will help you be more alert and prepared every time you take the field.
